Reuben Sandwich

Corned beef, melty cheese, sauerkraut, spicy mustard on grilled marbled rye and pumpernickel. Maybe I should have taken the picture with a bite out of it. It was good. On my first trip to NYC I remember a basket of rolls of many different kinds including pumpernickel and rye. The best bread I ever ate.

  2. My mom taught me to love pumpernickel bread. She always had it on hand for toast. So good just with butter! She also introduced me to Reubens. She grew up in NJ and spent a lot of time in NYC because she got her masters there. I think there was a deli in NY where they started. Anyway, I LOVE them. There's a deli restaurant in Saugatuck, Michigan where they serve a fabulous one in a black iron skillet. I've gone mostly vegan at home now, but I still eat meat when I'm out, and a reuben sandwich is one I can't completely give up!
